This easy DIY Sugar Skull Luminary is a brilliant idea to make use of these empty detergent pod buckets. Great as decor for Halloween or the Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) celebrations.
When I have those empty containers and buckets, I always think of reusing them and making fun projects. Just like this empty Tide Pod Bucket. I thought this can turn into a really nice craft.
And so this Sugar Skull Luminary came up.
The Sugar Skull Luminary
This Sugar Skull Luminary is one of the easiest crafts. It may only take about 5 minutes.. (Well… That’s after you already cleaned and dried up the bucket). Cleaning it is simple, just rinse with a small amount of vinegar (about one teaspoon). That will neutralize the detergent.
The sugar skull luminary is colorful, but you don’t need to paint it. All you need is the Sugar Skull Temporary Tattoos to decorate it.
I’ve included the link where I got the temporary tattoo in case you don’t know where to find it.
I really like how it looks. At first, you wouldn’t know that it was made with the Tide Pod bucket. Especially when you turned on the light. To think that I only used the battery-operated tealights.
To begin with, gather the supplies needed… That will be easy because there are only 3. Plus the paper towel and some clean water.
Supplies
- 1 empty Tide Free Pod bucket (or other white laundry pod bucket)
- Sugar Skull Temporary Tattoos
- 3-4 Battery-Operated Tealights
Tools
- Paper Towel
- Water
Instructions
Remove labels from the laundry pod bucket and wash thoroughly. Rinse with water and about one teaspoon vinegar. Rinse again, then dry the bucket completely.
Select the temporary tattoo you want to use and peel off the clear plastic protective sheet.
Place the temporary tattoo face-down on the handle side of the laundry bucket. Make sure you hold the tattoo still while applying.
Wet the paper towel with the water, then apply the paper towel to the paper side of the tattoo, dampening it all the way through the paper.
Wait 30-45 seconds before gently removing the paper from the tattoo. Slowly peel away the paper portion making sure to not pull up the tattoo itself. If you do happen to pull the tattoo part you can push on the back again with the wet paper towel to get the tattoo to release.
Place tealights into the laundry buckets and enjoy!
If you are not yet making it, be sure to pin this craft into your Easy crafts Board of your Pinterest for later.
