It was a dark and stormy night.

Not really, I was just ever-loving lazy and didn’t want to get out, since it was already heading toward the dinner hour.

But I was about to make tacos–and, horror of horrors, I had no packet of taco seasoning.

My mom had never used the packet of seasoning when I was a kid, though…she’d always seasoned her tacos from a magical mason jar in the cabinet that held all sorts of wicked secret spices.

Thus, I decided to make the call–I’d get mom on the line and find out: Exactly what was in that amazing Homemade Taco Seasoning she’d used all my life and I’d conveniently forgotten about during my college years?!

To be clear, mom laughed at me.

She may have even shaken the goofy mason jar at the phone and said, “What, this Homemade Taco Seasoning?”

I may have drooled a little as I cried, “YES! YES! THAT ONE!”

At that point, she made me guess.

This night was not getting a bajillionty times better, let me assure you.

But, as I listed off the suspected ingredients, my benevolent (if slightly eeeeevil) mother, helped me come up with my own concoction that had me, well, excited.

Heck, my mom even said, once or twice, “Oh. Yeah, that sounds like it would be good–let me throw off a teaspoon of that in mine and see how it smells.”

After just a couple of minutes, I had my own Homemade Taco Seasoning in hand and had talked mom into making tacos for herself and my dad for dinner.

Heh.

Eeeevil is inherited, you know.

Ingredients

• 1/4 tspn Ground Cumin
• 1 tspn Chili Powder
• 1/4 tspn Crushed Red Pepper, or a little more if you like a little kick to your tacos
• 1/4 tspn Fresh Ground Celery Seed, OMG, if you haven't been using this--it's MAGIC
• 1/2 tspn onion powder, even if you cook with onions, this adds a little pop--it's like using chicken bullion to spice up chicken noodle soup
• 1/2 tspn Garlic
• 1/4 tspn paprika, but only for color--I mean, I don't actually put this in, but whatever
• 1/2 tspn Salt
• 1/4 tspn Pepper

Instructions

1. In a clean mason jar, place all the ingredients.
2. Close lid.
3. Shake like crazy.
4. Use on tacos.
