These easy Jack Skellington hot cocoa bombs are a slice of scary-spoooky fun treats perfect for a cold and chilly day!
Inspired by the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas, I love how these Jack Skellington Hot Cocoa Bombs turned out. Plus they were SO SIMPLE!
I enjoy having cocoa bombs. The way they melt in a mug once the hot milk is poured in, it’s so amusing. Lol! But more than that, they are so delicious and the kids are just super enthralled.
What else is perfect with hot cocoa? Dipping cookies, of course! We dipped a few of these One Bowl Chocolate Chip Cookies in our Jack Skellington Hot Cocoa. It’s definitely worth a try.
How to make these Jack Skellington Hot Cocoa Bombs
Making this is so easy and enjoyable especially when you start making the face.
Practice first on any smooth surface before applying the design on the bomb. There’s no need to be perfect, though. It will still look great and taste delicious however you make it. And Jack–he’s kind of a wonky looking guy a lot of the time anyway.
You will also need a silicone mold or the little metal bath bomb molds I used (though I really prefer the silicone mold, honestly).
You will also need a piping bag with small holes. Or just get a ziplock, and cut one corner to make a tiny hole.
Ingredients to Make Nightmare Before Christmas Hot Cocoa Bombs
- 2 cups White Candy Melts
- 1/3 cup Chocolate Candy Melts
- 2 cups Hot Chocolate Mix
- 2 cups Mini Marshmallows
- Sprinkles in red and White
Instructions to Make Jack Skellington Cocoa Bombs
Place both of the candy melts into two separate microwave-safe bowls then melt each of them in the microwave per the candy melt directions.
Place about 1 tbsp of the melted white candy melts into one of the half-sphere molds and, with the bottom of a spoon or your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the candy melts up and around the sides of the mold, making a thick but even coat. Repeat coating all 12 halves of the bomb mold.
Place the coated bomb molds into your freezer for about 5 minutes then take them out and gently tap the mold, pressing on one side of the hardened candy melts to make the sphere of chocolate slide out of the mold. This is where having the silicone mold is nice because it’s much easier to peel the bomb out of the silicone than work the metal bombs off the chocolate.
How to Put Together Cocoa Bombs
Fill 6 of the chocolate cups with about 1 tbsp hot cocoa mix, 6-8 mini marshmallows, and some sprinkles, if desired.
Warm a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in your microwave for about 45 seconds or until the plate is warm.
Press an empty bomb half, with the open-side-down, onto the flattest area of the warmed plate for approximately 10 seconds. This will melt just the rim of the cup.
Immediately place this half-cup to the top of a filled cup, joining the two halves to make a hot cocoa bomb. Repeat to make 6 full hot cocoa bombs.
How to Make the Jack Skellington Face
Place the chocolate candy melts in a piping bag. Then carefully pipe the face of Jack Skellington on the bomb. I practiced a few times on a piece of parchment paper before going for the bombs.
But the plan is to make the smile, then the stitches on the smile. Follow that with some dashes for the nose. Then make an outline for each eye and fill it in.
Slide the hot cocoa bombs inside your freezer for about 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to set, then remove and store your cocoa bombs in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.
When it’s time to use your hot cocoa bombs, set them in a mug then pour 2 cups of hot milk over the hot cocoa bomb. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and enjoy!
