How to Host a Grinch Movie Night

Thank you for sharing!

(Inside: No matter which Grinch movie you’re featuring, this is How to Host a Grinch Movie Night and make it one your kids (and you) will really remember.)

There are a lot of different versions of The Grinch out there.

There’s the animated classic, Jim Carrey’s version, and now there’s the new animated Dreamworks Grinch movie that just came out.

Our family loves the timeless classic story of how the mean Grinch tried to steal Christmas, and how his heart was transformed and ended up saving the Christmas he had stolen.

Oh yeah, I guess spoilers if you haven’t seen any of the Grinch movies. Our family loves watching Christmas movies this time of year, and the Grinch always makes the top of our list.

To make things more exciting, we have an entire Grinch themed movie night!

Here is how to host a Grinch movie night to take your Christmas movie night up a notch.

Hosting a Grinch Movie Night

Dress up for the event

Dressing up for a Grinch-themed movie night is surprisingly easy!

Of course, if you have Grinch attire you should dress in that, but most of us don’t exactly have Grinch themed clothing just lying around the house.

One fun way you can dress up for your movie night is by having everyone wear as much green as they can.

You can even dress up as Whoville citizens, or just wear your favorite pair of green pajamas if you want to get cozy. The possibilities are really endless!

Play Grinch themed games and activities before the movie

While you are waiting for the movie to start or the food to finish cooking, playing a few Grinch themed games or activities can be a fun way to pass the time.

If you have little kids watching the movie or are trying to make this into a family movie night experience, this is the way to do it!

When choosing activities and games to play, you want to keep it kind of simple.

If you want to make it an all-day event, consider activities like crafts, otherwise stick to one or two simple activities.

Create a simple menu of Grinch themed foods

There are a ton of fabulous recipes out there for everything from Who pudding to Roast beast.

If you want to go traditional like the movie, do a little search and see what kinds of recipes you can find.

However, rather than get really in-depth with the food, we keep the menu simple.

I put together a few Grinch themed foods instead, like Grinch Nutter Butters, Grinch Sugar Cookie Bars, and Grinch Cookie Dough Bite Cookies…so good…

But any foods that are green, have hearts, or something else related to the movie will work.

It really is so much fun and makes the movie night WAY better.

If you want to stick to something classic like popcorn, dress it up by making a candy bar to go with it so each person can customize their own popcorn.

Make an entire night of it

Who says you just have to sit back and watch a movie? If you really want to make an entire night of it, there are a bunch of ways you can make it happen!

Instead of having treats with your movie, why not have an entire Whoville sized dinner?

Instead of just doing a quick word search while your cookies are in the oven, make an ornament for the Christmas tree.

Spend time dressing up and creating outfits or whatever your family would like to do! Remember that this is a family movie night and the goal is to have fun.

Watching the Grinch is like opening presents on Christmas Day.

It’s just one of those things you can’t not do each year.

I hope that this guide has helped you not only create a fun and festive movie night to enjoy with your family, but it’s a memory you will cherish for many Christmases to come.

If you’re digging it, but you’re not jumping to Host a Grinch Movie Night TONIGHT, then pin this so you can find it later!
