How to Make a DIY Pool Noodle Lily Pad

Thank you for sharing!

No kidding, the weather this past week or so has been N-I-C-E (don’t tell the weather-men that, though because they’ll change it up on me for sure, if they find out–heh). So, we’ve been outside a lot–and we’ve been playing in the pool with our newest homemade pool noodle toy…My lovelies, this is How to Make a DIY Pool Noodle Lily Pad of your very own for your kids to toss around in the kiddie pool!

I’ve been spending a TON of time out in the yard with my two toddlers, generously coated with the NEW Banana Boat® SunComfort® Lotion Sunscreen (totally available in both 30 & 50 SPF–which is awesome), because, you know, it’s kind of awesome and works for playing in the sandbox (since the sand easily brushes off) AND in the pool–in fact it works in 7 real life conditions – sun, pool water, ocean water, wind, sweat, sand and even 100 degree heat.* Which is awesome. But I felt like we were missing out on a ton of fun because we don’t have any floaties.

That’s when I decided to take our pool noodles and make a little DIY Pool Noodle Lily Pad. Not a floatie that the girls can climb on, but something they can play with and toss around in the water…and is cute…kinda goes with them. Heh.

For those of you who (very much unlike me) can do this with just pictures, here’s a photo tutorial to float your–lily pad. Heh.

This is such a cute tutorial for making a lily pad from a pool noodle!

For the rest of us, I wrote the instructions a little more clearly. Heh.

What You Need to Make a DIY Pool Noodle Lily Pad

  • 2 green pool noodles
  • 1 orange or pink (or white) pool noodle
  • Sharp scissors
  • Hot glue and glue gun

Making a DIY Pool Noodle Lily Pad

  1. Twist the first green pool noodle into a circle and hot glue the ends together. Allow to dry before releasing.
  2. Wrap the second green pool noodle into a tight spiral, hot glueing the sides together and fit it inside the first pool noodle, hot glueing the one to the other and leaving a little gap…it should naturally do that without much trouble.
  3. Cut the pink pool noodle into various lengths, then cut it into strips length-wise, too.
  4. Hot glue these strips in a vertical manner and kind of pointing all which ways to form a water lily flower. You can add a center with a touch of the green pool noodle.
  5. Allow everything to dry–then toss in the pool!
