MMMM . . . close your eyes and imagine coming home to find your house filled with the wonderful fragrance of Easy Peasy Homemade Bread baking. Years ago, my hubby gave me a bread machine for Christmas. Now, don’t go scoffing at receiving appliances for gifts. I learned a long time ago that if my hubby can find something that makes my life easier or more pleasant, I don’t care when or why he buys it for me. (Don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy gifts of flowers and jewelry.)
Sorry, I kinda got off track there. But I’m now on my 3rd bread machine, because I wore the other two just flat-dab out (in a couple of decades)! I don’t make bread as often as I used to, though. Back in the day, I made bread three or four times a week. There was this whole little ritual I went through, beginning the evening beforehand. I’d measure out all the dry ingredients, except for the yeast, and put it in a bowl with a lid. Then, I’d measure out all the liquids and put them in a separate bowl in the fridge.
When I got ready for work the next morning, I’d pour all the ingredients into the bread machine pan, add the yeast, set the timer and head off to my job. When I got home, the first thing I’d do is sit down with a warm slice of bread with butter. (My mouth is watering, and I think I’ll go make some bread!) Now, I make bread once in a while, and we still love it!
I’ve always used the recipes that came with my bread machines, but if you’d like to try this one, here’s the recipe I’ve recently been using for a 2-pound loaf of traditional white bread:
Ingredients for Easy Peasy Homemade Bread
1-1/3 cups warm water (75º – 85º F)
4 teaspoons Butter or Margarine, room temperature
2 tablespoons Sugar
4 teaspoons Non-fat dry milk powder
2 teaspoons Salt
4 cups Bread Flour, sifted
2 teaspoons Bread machine yeast
Putting your Easy Peasy Homemade Bread together
This is SO easy! Put the Water, butter or margarine, sugar, milk powder, salt and flour in your bread machine pan –in that order! Make a small well in the flour and put the yeast in the indentation (don’t let the yeast touch the liquids). Start the bread machine. Enjoy!
