Know What a Budget Is

First of all, you need to know exactly what a budget is. Essentially a budget is a kind of like a map for your small business. It gives you an overview of how much you will spend and make in a certain time period.

To have a proper budget, you will want to include an estimate of what you are going to make and an exact plan for your spending on your blog. Following this budget will successfully ensure that your small business is going to be profitable and will achieve your goals.

Start with some ideas of what your expenses and income might be, get something on paper, and then move on to step 2.

Do Your Research

This is the hard part, but it’s not so much hard as frustrating. You’re going to need to figure out all the exact numbers, meaning how much your blog can bring in within a month, how much you spend on it to keep it going, how much you take home, etc. Take all the numbers and have them written down and it is crucial they are EXACT numbers, not just guessing.

So, dig through all the costs you regularly have like hosting, advertising, everything–then how much you could realistically bring in with sponsored posts, ads, and–everything. Adjust your guesses to be more real is what I’m saying. LOL!

Set it up

Now that you have all the numbers you are going to put them in an order. Take how much your business brings in the month, subtract what you spend on the business itself, whether it is supplies, etc. Then take out how much you take for yourself. Once that is all done and you have any leftover or maybe that IS what you take is what is left over after the business expenses, this is where the budgeting comes in.

Set a Goal

Your goal depends on what it is you need to budget for. Are you not making enough to keep your blog running? Or maybe you are spending too much on the supplies and it isn’t giving you enough income to live off of.

Figure out what it is and set the goal. For example, say you need to spend more on some lighting or backdrop. Just make a set list of how much you are going to take out of the profit from the business or put back into the business. Stick with this budget to keep everything under control.
