Believe it or not, this is the most important part of blogging and there are some people who don’t seem to understand that a blog without a niche is dry and can also tend to get messy–because, honestly, you’re going to have to break a few eggs…if you know what I mean. But, maybe, with these little pointers, you can find your blogging niche (and write a blog you REALLY love) and not break as many eggs as you might otherwise have had to…
Step 1: Identify Your Interests
The most important thing to having a blog is having a purpose behind it and that purpose needs to be things that YOU are interested in and passionate about. Pinpoint all of the things you are interested in and that inspire you, things you like to do in your spare time, your hobbies. Whether it is art, fashion, photography, travel, food, etc. Spend some time on all these subjects, get the creativity and inspiration flowing. Get a feeling for which ones you love the most and that you won’t get bored with.
Step 2: Index Your Strengths
This goes along with your interests, for example, you may like to look at art but, do you know how to make it or even understand it on a deep level? (for me this would be NO). And, taking that one more level deeper: do you know enough to write content about it? You have to be able to hit all three of these questions to a pretty deep level–or at least be passionate enough about it to learn. The point here is to dwindle down your interests and find the things you are strong in and able to do. If you’re not, your readers will read right into that (heh) and see that you’re just not that into your own blog…
Step 3: Be Creative
A huge part of finding your blogging niche is being creative (which can be pretty difficult). You could take the easy road and just follow everyone else–do what they’re doing, but then that isn’t original and it’s not necessarily YOUR niche it’s copying. To really be successful, you need to get really creative and make it your own. It’s CERTAINLY great to take inspiration from blogs you love, think about the reasons you love those blogs and what keeps you coming back. But then you need to take those as advice and inspiration–not a template. Create from your own perspective and take your own path to bloggy-greatness.
So, basically, you need to find a topic (or a few) that you REALLY love that will keep YOU inspired and that you have strengths in. Then make it your own. My honest opinion is that you need to sit down and really think this through–write it on a sheet of paper and do a bullet journal or vision board.
My friends, this is how to find your blogging niche–and I promise you it takes a little work, but it is worth it and will help your blog grow by leaps and bounds, once you’re paired with your niche-audience. Having a niche you won’t get bored of and that you are good at writing about will make your blog amazing and will bring in readers because your passion will shine through.
Now, let’s get out there and start breaking those eggs..heh.
