Valentines Day Mini Gum Ball Machines

Love is in the air on Valentine’s Day. But it can be fun, too, especially for youngsters and young at hearts.

Making a little something cute for a unique gift for Valentine’s Day can be just about as rewarding as the act of giving something. Particularly for the kids.

I always liked giving something I crafted to my friends on Valentine’s Day. Just like Christmas and other holidays. So this is a perfect craft for the kids to do the same.

I promise that this project is very easy. Even super young kids can help out with your supervision, of course. You’ll need a hot glue gun, so, be very careful with it. But I found this ultra-low-temp hot glue gun for kids (paid link) that my two LOVE using on craft projects.

What You Need To Make Valentines Mini Gum Ball Machines

  • Multicolor gum balls
  • Clear fillable ornaments
  • Red disposable cups
  • Scrapbook or construction paper
  • Hot glue gun
Materials

This project is very scalable. For example, if you plan to make 10 Mini Gum Ball Machines, you will need 10 red disposable cups. Just keep that in mind as you’re planning the project.

How to Make Mini Gum Ball Machines

First, create the base of your gum ball machine by placing a rubber band around your cup.  You can use this to trace a line that will give you a straight cut.  Cut the cup all the way around to shorten it and make your gum ball machine base.

Procedure

Get your plastic ornament and separate it, filling it with gumballs, and then put the two sides back together.  Then place a small amount of tape on the outside of the ornament to be sure they stay securely closed.

Create a slit in the top of your cup and place the top portion of the ornament in the slit.  Secure the underside of the cup with hot glue to secure it in place.

And the last step is to create a message using your scrap paper.  You can also decorate it with stickers to make it your own.
