I love this easy pirate treasure hunt activity for toddlers! How simple--and cute!

Baby Donut (who’s not so much a baby anymore–she’s a toddler) has some pretty significant allergies…mostly seasonal, we think, but still. And, for a while, we were worried that the flare-ups of rashes and sneezing would keep her indoors and not have a lot of fun. But, with the help of all® free clear liquid detergent*, we get outside–a lot. And this is what we did this weekend…we had a Toddler Pirate Treasure Hunt. So. Much. Fun.

A year ago, or even a month ago, a Treasure Hunt just didn’t seem like a great idea for Donut. Not only would she be all sneezy afterward, but her skin would break out and we’d be fighting getting it calm. But with the summer coming, I have started doing some targeted things to get her skin-allergies under control. First, we switched to washing her clothes with all® free clear liquid detergent or free clear mighty pacs®, because it’s what our pediatrician recommended, and it turns out that it’s the #1 detergent recommended by Dermatologists, Allergists, and Pediatricians for Sensitive Skin (who knew?!). Second, we started doing a little 20-minute saltwater bath in the morning and evenings. And, third, we started changing our clothes after playing outside. Random, I know, but it’s working–her skin is clear and it’s been a couple of days since we did our Treasure Hunt…I’d call that a win.

How to Set-Up a Toddler Pirate Treasure Hunt

  1. Mom, this is all you. Just go outside for about 5 minutes before you want to do the Treasure Hunt and, using the spray paint, make a trail. Feel free to make it short or long, depending on your toddler’s attention span. Make it go around stuff or a straight line–over tree stumps (that’s what we did) or under chairs (did that too). Whatever. This is your kid.
  2. Toss digging implements at the end of the trail and mark it with an “X” in the spray paint.
  3. Allow paint to dry a little (like 5 minutes).
  4. Toss-off a treasure of sorts around (if your toddler is like mine, this is less about the treasure and more about the digging and then playing with treasure…so hiding it was not really a thing).
  5. Release the toddlers! LOL!
  6. Following the hunt, wash their clothes in the all® free clear detergent, to get all those allergens out and the kiddos on their way to the next thing!
