The Day I (almost) Forgot Mother’s Day

Thank you for sharing!

I’m not the world’s most perfect person. I’m not super coordinated, I say the wrong thing sometimes, and I’m VERY forgetful. I have to work very hard to remember things–and sometimes, even then, I totally fail. Especially when it comes to remembering a lot of things in the same short period of time. Case in point: The Day I (almost) Forgot Mother’s Day. Thank goodness for patient moms, the internet, PayPal & Xoom and brothers that totally owe you. Heh.

The Day I (almost) Forgot Mother’s Day

The thing was, I was in college, so there was a lot going on. And I had been chosen for a scholarship for a quickie-internship across the country. My first time to be so far from home–alone. Without family, friends or even an acquaintance. I was a little nervous and some regular-life things got forgotten, like my favorite shirt, a hairbrush, birth control pills (all left on the counter at home), oh and MOTHER’S DAY!

Yeah, day 4 of my internship would be spent doing research at historic sites…and not at home with my mom telling her how awesome she was. And I forgot to even leave my kid brother with a $20 to grab her some flowers. Sure, he’d be getting her a card from himself and some caramel popcorn (like he always does), but the flowers that I always bought her would be conspicuously absent. The same way I was. When I realized it–the day before Mother’s Day, I panicked.

My brother is brilliant, though. When I called him begging him to spot me the $20 (because, frankly, he owed me for the whole no-money-for-the-movies-last-week-debacle) and head to the store for the flowers (he wasn’t even 16, so he would have to walk, so this was a big deal), he told me he didn’t have the cash. He’d used every penny on her caramel corn and card. “But,” he said, “You can always send me $20 on PayPal and I can use my card to pick ’em up.”

Relieved isn’t enough of a word to describe how I felt. My brother is brilliant. I just opened up my computer, typed-in the amount and within an hour my brother had made it to the store and was back on the phone with me to reassure that the flowers would indeed be delivered–and he’d even call me so I could hear my mom’s reaction.

Needless to say, she was almost in tears that we’d pulled off our “normal” Mother’s Day act (which has kind of become a joke after all these years of the two of us kids doing the same thing over and over–heh) and that I even half-way made it there, even though I was hundreds of miles away.

Although it turned-out great, the Day I (almost) Forgot Mother’s Day could have been even better had I thought to send the money directly to mom with the PayPal of awesome. They have all sorts of good deals. Like these that I think maybe my hubby should get for me, like:

  • $50 gift card for $40 at Legal Sea Foods
  • $50 gift card for $40 at bedandbreakfast.com
  • $35 off $65 at SuperJeweler 4/24/16 – 5/8/16
  • $10 off $50 at Bits of Vintage 4/24/16 – 5/8/16

I mean those are some great deals–you can see all the details at PayPal–and see ALL the deals (because these are just my faves and mom should be able to pick HER fave).

And, sending money with Xoom (PayPal’s buddy) when you’re overseas–or mom is overseas, is kind of a no-brainer since they are the only remittances company that has instant disbursements so loved ones can receive money with bank transfers, cash pick-up or delivery, bill pay and mobile reload (that’s a lot of choices).

Drop me a line and let me know if you have any near-miss stories like The Day I (almost) Forgot Mother’s Day! And don’t forget to check out all the Mother’s Day deals and egift cards from PayPal.
