The creaminess of this classic Stovetop Mac and Cheese makes it very irresistible.

There are a lot of versions when it comes to making mac-n-cheese. There’s “follow the box directions,” there’s “like mom made it,” and everything in between. So much more than just baked or stovetop. But this easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese is my favorite.

The combination of so-cheesy flavors of cheddar, parmesan, and Velveeta make it insanely flavorful, and its creaminess makes the Stovetop Mac and Cheese irresistible. What’s more? It’s very simple and easy to make.

What Noodles Can You Use to Make Mac and Cheese

As I said, cooking this is so simple and easy. You can use your favorite noodles, even branching out to try something non-elbow, if you like.

I recommend trying out whole grain or wheat pasta if you prefer fibrous. If you will be using voluminous pasta noodles or any other shape, remember that measurements may be affected. It may be more than a cup. A little adjustment will do, but just keep it in mind.

How to make Stovetop Mac & Cheese

Stovetop Mac and Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups elbow noodles, uncooked
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups whole milk
  • 1teaspoon onion powder
  • 1teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 4oz Velveeta, cubed (half a package)

To begin with, cook the noodles according to the package directions.

And then, for the cheese sauce, first, melt the butter in a large saucepan. Then whisk the flour into the melted butter and then whisk in 1 1/2 cups of the milk.

This is going to cook for 2 minutes stirring occasionally.

Next, add the onion powder, mustard powder, and white pepper. Then Whisk in the cheddar and Parmesan cheese and continue to heat and stir until the cheeses appear melted and fully incorporated into the milk mixture, about 3-5 minutes.

Pour this cheese mixture over the cooked, drained noodles and stir to coat.

Easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese Recipe

So, that’s it. That’s how easy it is – and it makes 8 cups of finished mac-n-cheese, which is usually more than enough for my family. If you want to make more than this recipe, though, just double everything. It’s seriously that simple.
