Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty this week, folks: There’s an earth-shatteringly-exciting moving coming out this week. You know the one I’m talking about…Star Wars The Force Awakens. I know I’m totally going to have my bubble burst if it sucks, but it can’t–It JUST CAN’T. Because Disney rocks and they are in charge now. That’ll totally rescue the franchise and put it back to rights. Right? So, in celebration of this momentous occasion, I have been making Star Wars-themed food all week. Yesterday, it was Star Wars Puppy Chow. And what a great idea it was. Eat it, you will, and enjoy it too, my Padawan.
Ah, Puppy Chow, one of my favorite snacks. Muddy Buddies, Monkey Much, or Reindeer Food, I don’t care what you call it–it’s all good stuff (and according to Wikipedia, its a US thing, so you Brits will have to abstain, apparently, LOL!). Mine is kind of unique. It’s nut-free (although you feel free to add peanut butter as long as you’re not allergic like my family is) and it’s got a little coconut. Oh, and it’s totally Star Wars themed. Yeah, light sabers and R2-D2 all the way, baby. The best part is the light sabers, just so you’re aware. I have red and green, so I equally distribute love to both the light and dark sides of the force.
Now, don’t be turned-off by the name–there are no puppies in it. And the light sabers won’t bite either. It’s totally cool to eat light sabers. I know, I checked with Yoda. He said it’s totally ok. I even made cookie light sabers over the weekend. So, yeah, it was a natural transition to make the Puppy Chow. Natural. My son even took some to school and the teacher said it was really yummy, so I got an “A”! (just kidding–he didn’t grade me).
Star Wars Puppy Chow
Star Wars Puppy Chow {Nut Free}
I have been making Star Wars-themed food all week. Yesterday, it was Star Wars Puppy Chow. And what a great idea it was. Eat it, you will, and enjoy it too, my Padawan.
Ingredients
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup sweetened coconut flakes
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
- 5 cups Chex, rice or corn, whatever
- 2 cups pretzel sticks
- 5 drops red food coloring
- 5 drops green food coloring
- 10 drops blue food coloring
- 2 tblspns vegetable oil, if necessary
Instructions
- Place the chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it on high in 30 second increments, stirring between, until chocolate is smooth.
- Set aside 1/3 of the chocolate.
- Add the blue food coloring to the larger portion of the chocolate, stirring until its thoroughly combined. If the chocolate thickens, add vegetable oil to make it smooth again.
- Add Chex to the chocolate and stir until every Chex piece is covered and filled and awesome.
- Place chocolate-covered Chex into a gallon-sized bag and add 2/3 of the powdered sugar.
- Shake it like a polaroid picture (heh). Set aside.
- Separate the remaining chocolate in half.
- Mix the red food coloring into one portion of the chocolate and green food coloring into the other portion. Again, if it thickens, add some vegetable oil to get it thick again.
- Add 1/2 of the pretzels to the red chocolate and stir until they're all covered.
- Do the same with the remaining pretzels in the green chocolate.
- In a separate gallon-size bag, place 1/2 of the remaining powdered sugar and the red chocolate pretzels and shake like crazy. Set aside.
- In another gallon-size bag, place the coconut and the green chocolate pretzels and shake.
- Add the remaining portion of the powdered sugar to the green pretzels and shake again.
- Combine the Chex and all pretzels together in one gallon-size bag, shake a little until mixed thoroughly, but not so much as to make a mess of things.
- Dump into a serving bowl and insert face into bowl. Yeah, that's how good this stuff is. Heh.
