Super Fun and Simple Muddy Pumpkin Patch Invitation to Play

Thank you for sharing!

My kiddos were so excited to find this pumpkin patch mud pie invitation to play on the table. They had so much fun making edible chocolate play dough mud pies and playing with the mini pumpkins!

My daughter gets really bored with plain play dough. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but she’ll just play with it for a minute and then be like “eh”. So, to make it more interesting, I like to set up fun invitations to play with our play dough recipes, a little “here’s something fun” that she can do that’s more cool than just a lump of dough on the counter. This week, it was a Super Fun and Simple Muddy Pumpkin Patch Invitation to Play. I know, right. What kid wouldn’t love a little pumpkin patch in which to make mud pies?! So, we’re having fun with this–probably for a couple of days, she loves it so much. Although, she did discover that the pumpkins are really yummy, so there may not be so many pumpkins left in our pumpkin patch by tomorrow….

Simple enough, right? I like to let my daughter play with kitchen utensils, but if that’s not your thing, feel free to get the kiddo play spoons and bowls. I think the idea of her own things being just set-up differently than normal is such a huge motivator for my daughter to play. It’s a really unstructured thing, but makes for a longer play time, for some reason. I guess it just captures her attention more. We do this with lots of other things–not just pumpkins and play dough, but those seem to be the most fun…

If you’re required to play with the “invitation” like I am, you can dig around and plant the pumpkins, you can form the play dough into little pies and pretend to bake them, you can do all sorts of fun things. One thing I like to do is let my daughter guide me. I whisper “what should I do now” and let her indicate what I should do. We learned this play technique when in therapy with my son and although he did not seem to enjoy it, she seems to think this is the bees-knees to tell us how to play!

And just a reminder that if you’re not putting together this super fun muddy pumpkin patch invitation to play RIGHT THIS SECOND, pin this post so you can remember to make it later! Your kids will thank you, and you will thank me!
