Let’s make the Harry Potter Hot Cocoa Bombs

Making these homemade hot cocoa bombs is so very easy. They look really hard, but frankly they’re easier than making a cupcake or cookies. SERIOUSLY.

The biggest thing you need will be that Silicone Mold (paid link). I made mine with metal bath bomb molds, because that’s all I had at the time, but frankly, they’re not as easy to use as the silicone – but the silicone molds were on backorder and I couldn’t wait. LOL!

You will also need a piping bag with a very small tip. Or just get a ziplock, and cut one corner to make a tiny hole.

How To Make Harry Potter Hot Cocoa Bombs

Place both of the candy melts into two separate microwave-safe bowls then melt each of them in the microwave per the candy melt directions.

Ingredients and Instructions

Place about 1 tbsp of the melted chocolate candy melts into one of the half-sphere molds and, with the bottom of a spoon or your tablespoon measuring spoon, press the candy melts up and around the sides of the mold, making a thick but even coat.

Repeat coating all 12 halves of the bomb mold.

 Instructions

Place the coated bomb molds into your freezer for about 5 minutes then take them out and gently tap the mold, pressing on one side of the hardened candy melts to make the sphere of chocolate slide out of the mold. If you’re using a silicone mold, you’ll just gently peel the silicone away from the chocolate – and it’ll be a lot easier.

Fill 6 of the chocolate cups with about 1 tbsp hot cocoa mix, a pair of mice-mallows, and some sprinkles, if desired. The mice might not fit, but seriously, it’s fun, so fold them over. The marshmallows are the best part of this whole thing.

Warm a plate or a flat-bottom bowl in your microwave for about 45 seconds or until the plate is warm.

Press an empty bomb half, with the open-side-down, onto the flattest area of the warmed plate for approximately 10 seconds. This will melt just the rim of the cup.

Immediately place this half-cup to the top of a filled cup, joining the two halves to make a hot cocoa bomb. Repeat to make 6 full hot cocoa bombs.

You can add more chocolate around the edge to make it join better – also, please forgive the mess: this was the first time I made hot cocoa bombs and wow, looking at the photos after I’ve practiced…these are messy. Good news: we’re covering that mess super easily!

Place the yellow candy melts in a piping bag. Then go crazy with the ziz-zaz lines over the bombs. Then put the sprinkles over the top.

Slide the hot cocoa bombs inside your freezer for about 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to set, then remove and store your cocoa bombs in an airtight container until you’re ready to use.

When it’s time to use your hot cocoa bombs, set them in a mug then pour 2 cups of hot milk over the hot cocoa bomb. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and enjoy!
