Galaxy Donuts Recipe

Thank you for sharing!

Celebrate, donut lovers! Travel into the galaxy with these Galaxy Donuts! This outer space look is such a fun way to eat your favorite donuts.

Galaxy Donuts

These cool donuts get everyone excited just by looking at them. The colors are so fun.

It’s the perfect snack for a Star Wars movie night or an addition to a talk about the stars. Just kidding – we were watching Bad Batch. My kids love that show! How can I complain? (I love it, too, by the way. LOL!)

With the Galaxy Donuts as our snacks while enjoying the show, I also prepared a little Star Wars Rebel Alliance Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Float for funzies.

But let’s be honest, there’s no need to watch any space-themed movies to make these donuts. That’s just my thing for the kids. These donuts are perfect for any occasion. Even on no occasion at all. If you wanna make a treat for someone or for yourself, galaxy donuts are perfect.

How to Make Galaxy Donuts

These amazing donuts are not that difficult to make. You only need a little more time to raise the dough nicely.

There are 2 steps to make the recipe: the donuts and the glaze. But that’s just breaking it up so you can better understand – not because it’s super complex.

For the donuts, you’ll need

  • 4 cups of flour
  • ¼ cup and 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of instant dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp of margarine
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup and 2 tbsp of soy milk
  • ¼  cup and 3 tbsp of water
  • ½  tsp of salt

For the glazing, you’ll need

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar.
  • 2 tbsp of soy milk.
  • food coloring of your choice.
the ingredients

To make the donuts:

Mix the flour with the sugar, salt, and yeast in a large mixing bowl.

Add the egg, soy milk, water, and margarine while stirring until you get a dough firm enough to knead with your hands. Do not worry if the dough sticks to your hands as you start to knead.

To knead, use your palms to push the dough down and away from you, then fold it inwards and repeat the process for 5 to 10 minutes until you get a smooth and fluffy dough that no longer sticks to your hands.

Then, It is time to shape the dough into a ball and place it in a big bowl covered with a cloth or transparent food film. Wait for the next 2 hours until the dough has doubled or tripled in size.

making the dough

On a floured board, roll out the dough until it is ⅓ inch thick.

Shape the donut with a donut cutter. If you do not have one, use a mold that is about 3 inches in diameter to make as many holes as you can.

Then make the middle holes using a bottle cap. Put the donuts away, fold the scrap, and re-roll repeating the process until you do not have more dough.

Now it is time to fry the donuts.

On a medium pan, heat 2 inches of oil to medium-high heat and fry them until you get the brown you most like. I did it for about 5 seconds on each side, but do not hesitate to adapt it to your liking.

Easy Galaxy Donuts recipe

If you prefer a healthier version of the donut, you can put them in the oven instead of frying them.

Heat your oven to 390F for 15 minutes or until they get golden brown. The taste is more similar to a sweet bun than a store-bought donut but it is really good anyways.

To make the Glazing and to create the Galaxy Donuts:

the glaze

Mix the powdered sugar with the soy milk. Once you have a homogeneous mixture add some drops of the food coloring of your liking to get the most amazing galaxy mix.

Then If you only have the basic colors: blue, red, and yellow mix the blue and red to get a really fancy galaxy purple.

Stir the colors with a wooden stick in irregular motions to get a nice combination of colors.

the Galaxy Donuts

Allow the donuts to cool completely (mostly so the glaze won’t melt right off), then dip each of them into your glaze and let them dry. It won’t be five minutes and you’ll be able to enjoy your donuts!
