5 Crazy Hacks to Help Toddlers Sleep Through the Night

  1. Remove Stimulation. Some kids absolutely cannot sleep well with any kind of stimulation. That means light (even a nightlight), sound (even a snoring dog or sibling), or a tickle (think about those little girl hairs that might be brushing her face). So, eliminate any of those things that might be waking your kiddo hours after you’ve snuck out the door.
  2. Add Stimulation. If you have a kid with anxiety, like me, your biggest issue may not be the need for less stimulation, but a need for SOMETHING to keep their mind off the fact that they’re alone in the room if they wake. We solved this issue by playing a podcast (it’s a history one and we listen to it over and over–hours of history, every night). But it’s soothing, the sound is low, but it’s not just “white noise”. It’s something that our toddler can actually listen to and allow herself to be lulled back to sleep. Literally just like me. I can’t sleep without it–and she spent 9 months in my tum listening to it, so it’s really no surprise that it soothes her, too. If your kid is anxious at all, you can try a night light or white noise–but what works for you might work for them, so be sure to try that, too.
  3. Dry that Bottom. A really big thing you might be overlooking is the wet bottom syndrome. Even if your toddler is potty trained–they might be going in the night. And if they’re sitting there in a wet diaper that’s leaked all over…well, that’s not comfortable at all. So, you can look at getting some Sposie Diaper Booster Pads. They work with basically all disposable diapers and can double your diaper’s capacity to absorb by up to 8oz. This is great for kids that are super uncomfortable when the diaper leaks–and can you blame them?!
  4. Squash Separation Anxiety. Give your kiddo a large stuffed animal, something they can hug just like you. I’m not suggesting that your kid is wetting the bed because of separation anxiety–but they might be. And if they’re nervous because there’s no one there, even in their sleep, they might just need a lovey.
  5. Weigh the Kid Down. Remember when you swaddled that little baby-burrito? And how the nurses at the hospital told you that if you did that, they’d sleep well, because they were used to being a little confined? Well, they haven’t forgotten that their favorite place in the world was being squished in mom’s belly. So, get a weighted blanket (or make one) that gives your little one that gentle “swaddled” feeling (even though there’s no way you’re swaddling them these days…).

Let’s chat a second about the Sposie Diaper Pads (perhaps the most toddler-iffic invention ever) and how versatile they are.

If your kiddo is still in diapers, these things are awesome.

These Diaper Doublers can be used to make overnight trips with grandma a possibility (no more getting up in the night to change that kiddo’s diaper means she might be willing to actually have them over, long road trips could be in your future (because you no longer have to stop every hour to change them), and they can even help with kiddos that get rashes because of their overnight wetting habits.

Seriously, the days of doubling-up on diapers are so old school–these Sposie Diaper Booster Pads eliminate that need completely.

And, Sposie Diaper Booster Pads are available at Target, Walmart, and Amazon, so you can basically get them when you’re picking up diapers and not miss a beat.

If your kiddo is waking with a wet, leaky diaper in the night, this is the tool you need.
