Fruit Sushi {making lunch fun for kids series}

Thank you for sharing!

So, I’m trying to come up with fun ideas for the kid’s lunches and I’m also trying to introduce them to new shapes and whatnot for food, because they really could have more variety in their diet, eventually. And then it hits me: Fruit Sushi. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Round, fun, fruity circles with color and…yeah, it’s yummy, like a little tiny fruit salad. And I can use bits and pieces. Nice.

My kids LOVE to gobble up these little fruit sushi bites in their lunches!

Ingredients for Fruit Sushi

  • 2 honeydew melon slices
  • 1 watermelon slice
  • 6 blueberries
  • 1/2 kiwi
  • Tiny bit of pineapple

How to Make Fruit Sushi

  1. Lay the slices of honeydew on their sides.
  2. Using a medicine cup, cut out 6 round circles of honeydew. You may also do this with a melon baller. I tried both. They both work. Just cut some round things. Do it.
  3. Now, using a smaller circle-cutter-thing (I used the top of a baby shampoo bottle, RINSED!), cut out the centers of each medicine cup. I also just used a knife to cut some out. You know, this is ok to just wing…Set aside.
  4. Using a straw, stab that silly watermelon and make little stringy bits of watermelon. Blow them out the end of the straw if you have to. I did. Set aside.
  5. Slice up a little bit of pineapple in tiny little slices.
  6. Place a pineapple bit in the center of of the honeydew circle.
  7. Then place a blueberry in the center of the honeydew, then a little bit of watermelon.
  8. Add watermelon and pineapple until the center circle is filled.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 until you have filled all the honeydew circles.
  10. Enjoy!
